Number 1: This tweet from Mark O’Shea
Here I was reading Melissa Cole’s posts about sexism in beer a week or so ago and silently gloating ‘‘Ha! Glad it’s not like that in here in Australia’’. Seems I was wrong. Seriously wrong.
This was posted in Facebook, in a response to a woman saying she liked Feral’s Sly Fox.
Why would anyone in the beer community post something as damn stupid as this in response? I really, really, really, really, really don’t understand the mentality behind this at all.
What’s wrong with women liking beer? If more people like beer, then they start making more beer. Everyone wins.
Number 2: Pozible – Bringing the World’s Best Beer to Aus!
This is the crowdfunding effort from mail order beer sellers Beer Bud, where they’re asking for $25,000 so they can go buy beer from overseas and sell it here. Instead of just buying it with their own money and then hoping they make their money back when they sell it – you know, like every other mail order beer business in Australia.
I’ve found this questionable from the start. It just seems a way to get a lot of money without having to get a loan or reach into their own pockets. And some of the rewards are pretty meek – only ONE of them involves actually getting any beer for your donation (hardly surprising that is far and away the most popular option).
Also hardly surprising is they haven’t even managed to raise $5000 yet. Can’t buy a container load of beer from the US with that.
Number 3: Geek.com – New Japanese beer claims to actually make you prettier
Yep and it’s got nothing to do with beer goggles. Instead, they put collagen into the beer. So obviously it’s aimed at women.
Number 4: This video from Save the Ales
Okay, now I really, really want to try that Drought Draught beer. Where do I get some?
Number 5: Beer Is Your Friend – NAB and Craft Beer
Remember that time the NAB created an entirely fictional brewery for an ad? Well, it kicked up a bit of a stink in craft beer circles at the time. Though we all know how easy that is to do.
Number 6: …And it’s not beer but you’ll like it
