What beer are you making for GABS?
What’s it called?
The Elvis – Smoked Hefe
Where did the inspiration come from?
I lived and brewed over in Vancouver B.C. for a number of years and did extensive travelling down in the USA. In my travels I came across a small craft brewer in Portland called Gigantic (I loved the irony, it’s a small place and they have no plans to extend).
Their beers were awesome and inspired me a lot to try different things, on the menu that day they had the Firebird Smoked Hefeweizen. During my travels I also came across THE ELVIS. It was Elvis’ favorite sandwich and consisted of banana, bacon and peanut butter. Hence the name ‘The Elvis’.
For those who might over-indulge, do you have a suggestion for a post-GABS hangover remedy?
A banana, bacon and peanut butter sandwich. Seriously though… my favorite hangover remedy is poached eggs on vegemite sourdough with bacon and a Bloody Mary (or a Caesar, the Canadian version of the Bloody Mary with clamato juice (a clam and tomato juice concoction))
Finally, finish this sentence, craft beer is ….
… not to be drunk alone. Unless you happen to be alone then that’s ok too.
The Great Australasian Beer Spectapular is at the Royal Exhibition Building in Melbourne on May 22-24 and Australian Technology Park, Sydney on May 30.
