GABS Brewer 2016: Ross Kenrick from Queensland’s Bacchus Brewing
What beer are you making for GABS?
Peanut Brittle Gose
What’s it called?
Probably just the above, unless we can come up with a suitably inspired pun.
Where did the inspiration come from?
Gose seems to be a style that’s going through a resurgence in popularity, and dessert beers are our forte, so this just screamed at us to be brewed.
Tell us why you have chosen to brew a Festival Beer for GABS
It’s awesome pitting your skills in such an open class event. We have been in since the second year when we won with our White Chocolate & Raspberry Pilsner, we followed up with second place with our Sex, Drugs & Rocky Road. Last year the brewing team wanted to do something more edgy and we made a sour lemon lime and Bitters, it’s gained a solid fan base, but it didn’t have the mass appeal to do really well at GABS. Hopefully this year we’ll be back in the running.
Finish this sentence – one thing I would like to change about craft beer is…
as a brewer in Australia, a simplification of the excise duty, it does my head in every month.
The Great Australasian Beer Spectapular is on May 20-22 at the Royal Exhibition Building in Carlton, Victoria, May 27-28 at the Australian Technology Park in Eveleigh, NSW and June 18 at ASB Showgrounds, Greenlane, Auckland.
