What beer are you making for GABS?
We are making a delightful full flavoured lager called Abbotsford Draught. Somehow the VB recipe has fallen in our lap and we’ve Moon Dogged it. Made it true to style with craft equipment and ingredients and then dry hopped it to the max. What VB could be if it were a craft beer.

Where did the inspiration come from?

We’ve always admired that ability of the macro breweries to be able to make such consistent beer on such a massive industrial scale. Working next to the Abbotsford plant has been a pleasure these last five years. We want to pay homage to the iconic beer and produce a craft version.

Oh, I’m not sure. We’ve never really not done it, so it seemed just like muscle memory really. No I lie. The very first GABS before it moved to the Exhibition Buildings. We were meant to but the beer turned out terrible so we had to pull out.

The spelling. It should be Craught Beer.

The Great Australasian Beer Spectapular is on May 20-22 at the Royal Exhibition Building in Carlton, Victoria, May 27-28 at the Australian Technology Park in Eveleigh, NSW and June 18 at ASB Showgrounds, Greenlane, Auckland.
