GABS Brewer: Andrew Sydes from Green Beacon Brewing Company in Teneriffe, Queensland
What beer are you making for GABS?
A Belgian witbier.
Does it have a name yet?
It does but it’s a secret…
Where did the inspiration come from?
It’s a style we’ve always loved and revered, like Johann our brewer has always said, if you can make a good Wit then you’re a good brewer.
Do you think it’ll be a one-off or are you considering adding it to the range after GABS?
I suppose that all depends on whether or not Johann knows what he’s doing!
What do you think of the concept of GABS?
We love it. It is a chance to let brewers take off their sensible, commercial viability hats for a chance to do something entirely inspired, unchained and a little unhinged. I guess it says something about our obsessive nature and what we really love about beer that we chose a technical challenge rather than something wacky.
The Great Australasian Beer Spectapular (aka GABS) is on in Melbourne on May 23-25, 2014.
