GABS Brewer 2017

GABS Brewer 2017 – Cubby Haus Brewing

GABS Brewer: Malcolm Sachs from Cubby Haus Brewing

What sort of beer are you making for GABS?
A Scottish Export 80 Shilling. 5.6 per cent ABV and very malty.

What’s it called?
The A9 to Thurso

Where did the inspiration come from?
I wanted to make a warming winter beer which is very malt driven, simply to give drinkers some relief from the hop madness.
It is based upon an old home brew recipe of mine, updated to benefit from all I have learned so far from going professional.

What’s the weirdest ingredient you’ve ever added to a beer?
I’m a bit of a traditionalist and mainly stick to boring ingredients. I am keen to re-make some herbal beers. I once made a sage beer, which was different and awesome.

GABS drinking preference – tasting paddles or a full glass?
Tasting paddles, please.

The Great Australasian Beer Spectapular is on May 19-21 at the Royal Exhibition Building in Carlton, Victoria, May 27 at Sydney Showground Olympic Park, NSW and June 16-17 at ASB Showgrounds, Greenlane, Auckland.
