GABS Brewer: Wade Curtis from 4 Hearts in Ipswich, Queensland.
What beer are you making for GABS?
A Mid Strength Red Rye American Ale
Does it have a name yet?
Yes, it is called ‘‘red.RYE.low’’.
Where did the inspiration come from?
My entry from last year was a craft take on XXXX Gold using Cluster hops, it was good but not the right beer for GABS. This year I have taken an experimental red ale I have brewed and hopped it up and added Rye. I’m still passionate about brewing low and mid strength beers to prove to people that you can get flavour into lower alcohol beers.
Do you think it’ll be a one-off or are you considering adding it to the range after GABS?
I’ll see you it goes, I have produced 8 kegs so you should see it in a few venues after GABS.
What do you think of the concept of GABS?
I love it, last year was my first time and the whole idea and atmosphere is awesome. Sadly I can’t make it this year as I’m busy planning for the next phase of 4 Hearts Brewing growth.
The Great Australasian Beer Spectapular (aka GABS) is on in Melbourne on May 23-25, 2014.
