GABS Brewer: Ross Kenrick from Bacchus Brewing, in Capalaba, Queensland
What beer are you making for GABS?
We have tried to put a Darrell Lea Rocky Road into a glass. The beer has a purple hue of Turkish delight and is layered with aroma/flavours of chocolate, peanuts, marshmallow, cherries, Turkish delight and hazelnut.
Does it have a name yet?
Our beer this year is called Sex, Drugs & Rocky Road (8% alc).
Where did the inspiration come from?
It’s an idea I’ve had for quite a while, as it’s quite an iconic dessert and dessert beers are one of our specialities. The challenge is getting all of the flavours to shine separately in the beer, in much the same way as you’d get when eating it and hopefully we’ve nailed it.
Do you think it’ll be a one-off or are you considering adding it to the range after GABS?
It will definitely become one of our range after GABS.
What do you think of the concept of GABS?
Brilliant, just brilliant. The quality and diversity of new beers on offer over 1 weekend, makes this the “must go to” event of the year for all craft beer lovers.
The GABS Brewer Q&A series returns on Monday with the UK’s Thornbridge Brewery
