“New figures have revealed that Australia Day ….is the number-one holiday for heavy drinking, assaults and car accidents among young people. On this day, more under-25s drink too much, ending up in hospital in higher numbers than on any other public holiday. There are more than double the usual number of ambulance callouts and a 50 per cent increase in emergency-department presentations. Injuries for assaults also double on Australia Day.”
