What The F..k Are You Waiting For – Day Five

image

Just a few days ago I figured I’d undergone the lupulin threshold shift, where I’d acclimatised to highly hopped beer. I wondered if I’d ever find another beer that made me think, “jeez, hops much?”. Or whatever it is the kids say these days.

Well, just a few days later I drank Brash Brewing’s The Bollocks, a 12 per cent imperial IPA. I bought it because I really liked the UK punk feel of the label. But, even though the label featured a copper giving me the two-fingered salute and even though I knew it was a double IPA, I wasn’t expecting the massively high level of bitterness the beer delivers.

I popped the cap of the bomber, poured it into a glass, took one sip and thought “Jesus Christ, that’s bitter”. Then I thought, “how am I going to finish the bottle?”. But I pushed through and got it all drunk – sometimes this beer blogging caper means you have to do the hard yards.

I doubt I’d buy this again. Even after my taste buds acclimatised to the beer, I still couldn’t find much to this beer beyond the enormous bitterness. Which, to be frank, was a little disappointing. I was expecting to find some fruit flavours from all the goddamn hops that went into the beer.

But I couldn’t. All I got was one big bitter beer bomb.
