The team from Grand Ridge Brewery in Victoria are making a beer with secret herbs and spices.
What beer are you making for GABS?
A dark lager conditioned with our secret herbs and spices, yet to be revealed (quite a unique twist).
Does it have a name yet?
Not yet, only a working title
Where did the inspiration come from?
One brewer wanted to make a dark lager, the other wanted to use some unique ingredients in a beer. GABS was a good opportunity to combine the two.
How much effort goes into designing a beer for GABS?
It’s generally quite a long process from conception of an idea to narrowing down raw materials and finally putting down the brew. We’ve been kicking this one around since GABS last year.
Does GABS give you the chance to go a bit crazy and try something you might not normally brew?
To a degree. We love experimenting and that’s why we have such a huge range of styles in our range (currently 15 different beers and counting!) GABS certainly creates the challenge without any real boundaries which is one of the greatest things to happen in the Victorian craft brewing industry. We’ve always loved pushing the boundaries at Grand Ridge as displayed through our range of limited releases so it’s great to have a platform to share these with a captive beer loving crowd at GABS.
Does the spectapular bring out a competitive streak?
Not so much a competitive streak as a desire to be contributing something positive to a really exciting time in Australian brewing.
Explanation for the unaware: GABS is Great Australasian Beer Spectapular, a beer festival in Melbourne, Australia, from May 24-26 this year where brewers make a beer they’ve never made before and bring it along so the punters can try it. Cool, huh?
