Ben Kraus from Bridge Road Brewers, based in the Victorian town of Beechworth, is going for some local flavour in his GABS beer.
What beer are you making for GABS?
A Beechworth Honey IPA
Does it have a name yet?
No haven’t got that far, any suggestions?
Where did the inspiration come from?
We are also doing a Honey APA with Melbourne City Rooftop Honey for Good Beer Week, this was a good extension from that.
How much effort goes into designing a beer for GABS?
It’s hard to come up with something new and unique, but we’ve usually got an idea or two up our sleeve.
Does GABS give you the chance to go a bit crazy and try something you might not normally brew?
Kind of but we brew different stuff every other month, so just another chance to do something outside the norm
Does the spectapular bring out a competitive streak?
Not really, it’s is great to compare beers with other brewers, if anything it forces us to be more creative.
Explanation for the unaware: GABS is Great Australasian Beer Spectapular, a beer festival in Melbourne, Australia, from May 24-26 this year where brewers make a beer they’ve never made before and bring it along so the punters can try it. Cool, huh?
