“It has been known for more than 20 years that long-term chronic use of alcohol can cause cancer. In 1988, the International Agency for Research on Cancer stated that ‘the occurrence of malignant tumours of the oral cavity, pharynx, larynx, oesophagus and liver is causally related to the consumption of alcoholic beverages’ and classified alcoholic beverages as Group 1 carcinogens—known to cause cancer in humans.”
