GABS Brewer: Kieran Allen from Pixel Brewing Company in inner western Sydney, NSW
What beer are you making for GABS?
I will be brewing an American India Pale Ale with a hint of rye and bourbon.
Does it have a name yet?
It will be called 640P, in line with alcohol percentage.
Where did the inspiration come from?
I am a big fan of American beers in general and am loving rye at the moment. An IPA seems the next logical step and I wanted to do something a little different than the standard hop bomb, so I figured bourbon to be a natural fit to the style and something a little out of the ordinary.
Do you think it’ll be a one-off or are you considering adding it to the range after GABS?
GABS is going to be the test case for it. If it is received well then it will be added to the core range. If not then we’ll try something different.
What do you think of the concept of GABS?
Anything that contributes to getting more craft beer out there and getting more people drinking it is a great thing and GABS is one of the best events in the country for doing that, thanks to the great promotion by the organisers and the media involvement/sponsorship/ coverage.
The Great Australasian Beer Spectapular (aka GABS) is on in Melbourne on May 23-25, 2014.
